ZenMaid vs. Jobber: The Booking That Changes a Small Cleaning Company’s Software Budget

By Cleaner Software Lab · Editorial methodology

An owner, two cleaners, and a calendar that doesn’t fit neatly into four weeks

A $27 software subscription sounds reasonable for a residential cleaning business with two cleaners. Now imagine the owner gets a request for one more house near the end of a busy month. The question suddenly isn’t whether $27 is affordable. It’s whether the booking fits into the plan.

ZenMaid Starter has a published ceiling of 40 appointments per month. ZenMaid says that once you reach it, you can’t add more appointments to that month without upgrading. Forty appointments—not 40 customers and not 40 cleaner shifts. That distinction deserves attention before you compare ZenMaid with Jobber on price. [1]

The calendar gets crowded quietly

Take October 2026 as a working example. Suppose a small cleaning business schedules two separate homes every Monday through Thursday and one home every Friday. A regular Monday-to-Friday week adds up to nine visits. October, however, has four Mondays, four Tuesdays, four Wednesdays, five Thursdays and five Fridays.

Those first four weekdays account for 34 visits; the five Fridays add five more. The crew has 39 appointments on the calendar. Accept one extra cleaning and the count reaches 40. Accept another and it’s 41—one beyond ZenMaid Starter’s published limit. If the company instead schedules two different homes on each of October’s 22 weekdays, it reaches 44.

This is a planning example, not a screenshot or test account. Each house visit counts once in the calculation, even if both cleaners go to that home. How ZenMaid treats a cancellation, a moved visit or a generated recurring appointment in a real account was not tested here. The vendor’s 40-appointment limit is documented; the calendar arithmetic is ours. [1]

Before choosing Starter, open your busiest upcoming month and count the visits on their actual dates. Don’t multiply a weekly average by four. Remember to include one-time jobs as well as recurring homes. A schedule that regularly lands at 39 leaves little room for an unexpected booking, even though it technically fits today.

Now count people, not just bookings

The business in this example has three people who need their own access: the owner and two cleaners. That changes the meaning of both companies’ entry prices.

ZenMaid’s base subscription includes the Owner profile and charges for additional active users. With two cleaner accounts, Starter comes to $27 per month: $19 plus $4 twice. Pro costs $67: $39 plus $14 twice. Pro Max would be $97: $49 plus $24 twice. The company lists unlimited appointments for Pro and Pro Max. These are modeled subscription totals for this crew, not all-in bills. [1] [2]

The step from Starter to Pro is $40 a month. For a business already booking more than 40 visits, the extra capacity is not a theoretical perk; it’s the constraint that needs solving. That doesn’t mean Pro is automatically worthwhile at 39. If the owner rarely accepts late requests and doesn’t need Pro’s other tools, Starter may still suit the operation.

Jobber presents a different trap in its starting price. Core is listed at $49 a month without commitment, but its help guidance says you can add only one additional user to Core. An owner and two cleaners needing three separate logins won’t fit that arrangement. A comparison that puts $49 opposite ZenMaid’s $67 without checking seats would be comparing different crews. [3] [4]

For three logins, the public Jobber Connect package to budget against is the one offering up to five users. It is listed at $199 per month without commitment. Jobber also offers $169 per month with a one-year commitment paid monthly, or an effective $149 per month with annual billing. That last option involves $1,788 paid for the year; the $169 option entails $2,028 over 12 monthly payments. They are different commitments, not three prices for an identical month-to-month purchase. [3] [5]

Would you pay more to fix the calendar—or the paperwork?

Suppose this crew expects the 44-visit October calendar. At the documented monthly prices without a Jobber commitment, ZenMaid Pro costs $67 and the five-user Jobber Connect package $199. That is $132 more in fixed subscription charges for Connect.

Spread those fees across 44 planned visits and Pro comes to about $1.52 per visit; Connect comes to about $4.52. Neither platform is charging those amounts per job. They’re a way to put two fixed bills on the same workload. They tell us nothing about labor, payment-processing fees, text messages, cancellations or whether a feature saves the owner an hour.

So look at the work between cleanings. Does the owner spend more time rearranging repeat visits and getting assignments to cleaners? ZenMaid Pro advertises recurring scheduling, checklists, staff GPS features, reports and an online booking form. Confirm the form’s branding and which plan-specific features are included before choosing a tier. For a business primarily concerned with the cleaning calendar, those are sensible features to check first. ZenMaid’s published material marked QuickBooks integration as ‘coming soon’ when the research was compiled; don’t treat it as a working connection without fresh confirmation. [1] [2] [8]

Or is the strain happening after a quote is sent and before an invoice is paid? Jobber Connect advertises automatic reminders, quote and invoice follow-ups, QuickBooks Online syncing and time-and-expense tracking, alongside checklists and recurring-job tools. If those tasks are genuinely central to the owner’s day, Connect has a stronger reason to be on the shortlist. But the advertised feature list is not evidence that it runs faster or saves a measurable number of hours for this particular business. [3] [6] [7]

One small pricing wrinkle should not decide the purchase. Jobber’s published one-user Connect price is $139 a month, and a separate commercial page refers to $29 per additional user. Put together, $139 + $29 + $29 gives $197 for three people. That’s arithmetic, not a verified three-seat checkout configuration. Without confirmation of eligibility and actual billing terms, use the published $199 five-user package in the comparison; the possible $197 arrangement would change it by only $2. [3] [9]

Which plan deserves a closer look?

For an owner and two cleaners whose busiest month can exceed 40 scheduled house visits, ZenMaid Pro is the first plan worth evaluating if the main work is recurring residential cleaning and live QuickBooks synchronization is not essential. Its modeled $67 price covers three accounts and avoids Starter’s stated appointment ceiling. Test the specific cleaner and owner workflows before buying; this article hasn’t done that testing.

If the busiest month consistently stays below 40, Starter’s modeled $27 bill deserves consideration instead—provided the smaller plan does everything the business requires and the limited booking headroom is acceptable. Jobber Connect becomes the serious alternative when follow-up, bookkeeping and broader service-management needs are important enough to justify the higher published subscription.

The useful next step isn’t another feature checklist. Put your busiest month’s visits on a real calendar. Write down which three people need logins. Then identify the administrative task you most need software to handle. Those three answers will make the pricing pages easier to read—and may prevent the cheapest plan from becoming the wrong one.
